Celebrating British Science Week
- We kickstarted our British Science Week celebrations by inviting Paul Nethercott a STEM ambassador from Griffiths to come in to talk to some Year 9’s about routes into civil engineering careers and further education. To finish the session he challenged the group to a fun tower building activity to test their team work skills.
- Year 10 STEM club members had a fantastic day at the COTEC site on Salisbury plain testing their CanSat (can sized satellite) in the regional launch event. Their parachute deployed successfully and the CanSat transmitted some data to their ground station. The CanSat successfully survived the landing impact and was retrieved intact ready for further development and improvements.
- Year 9’s have also been busy promoting STEM club in school by offering some fun taster activities to Year 7 students. The methane bubbles, flame tests and carbon snake experiments were lots of fun and will hopefully enthuse year 7 students to join STEM club in September.
