Waterproof trousers were immediately put on after exiting the minibus at Rowtor car park near Okehampton on Saturday. Although our walk wasn’t as far as our last walk it was more challenging in terms of the weather. The teams found themselves navigating through mist and fog so once again this tested and highlighted the need for accurate map reading as well as timing and pacing skills to assist with route finding.

Despite our route having very minor stream with ford crossings north Dartmoor has certainly had its fair share of rain. So much that we had to evaluate our safest crossing points whereas in previous years we’d have walked straight on through.

Our 17.5km route took in many of the tors and checkpoints of the Ten Tors challenge and also took us to the dizzy heights of High Willhays of 621m which technically makes Dartmoor a Mountainous Area.

Well done to pupils who stayed focused and positive on the walk in what was a particularly soggy and challenging day. Also thanks to our staff on another successful, albeit wet days training.
