Combestone Tor to Sharpitor
On Saturday 12th April, the St. Peter’s Ten Tors teams set off bright and early at 8am from Combestone Tor in the eastern reaches of Dartmoor, tackling a challenging 23km route that led them west across the moor to Sharpitor, just north of Burrator Reservoir. With 850 metres of climbing spread across a day of undulating terrain, this was a serious test of endurance, navigation, and teamwork.
Operating in self-sufficient teams and under only remote supervision, the trainees had to draw on every skill they’ve developed so far this season, from navigating over open moorland to managing kit, food, and pacing as a group. It was a rewarding challenge completed in good spirits and under pleasant skies, with all participants working hard to meet the demands of the day.
Once they reached their destination at Sharpitor, a welcome minibus ride returned the teams to basecamp in Princetown. There, they set to work cooking their evening meals and preparing for a restful night in camp. With no walking planned for Sunday, the group enjoyed a rare and well-earned lie-in until 8am, a luxury by Ten Tors standards!
This weekend marked the final full training before the main Ten Tors event, and with only one big yomp left before the real thing, spirits are high and focus is sharp. Boots will be laced, sleeping bags packed, and the adventure continued with energy and enthusiasm.
Go get it, adventurers — the moor is calling!
