St Peter's Success in National RE Competition
BackNews - 3rd Dec 2020
Every year the RE department enters our Year 7 students in a national RE competition which attracts about 2000 entries each year. 2020 attracted even more entries than usual as schools were encouraged to set this as a task for lockdown learning. We entered more students this year as we opened up the task to both Year 7 and 8. The students completed a series of lessons based around this year's competition themes and then the students had some planning time before completing their final entry. The students are required to create their artwork within a particular theme, write about their artwork and how it fits within that theme. They also need to explain why they chose to create their piece in the way they did.
The RE Department are very pleased to say that in this year's competition we have two winners and one highly commended entry. I am not sure many schools have ever managed to have so many finalists in one year, so this is an amazing achievement by the students. The entries we received were incredible and it was hard to choose the limited number of ten entries we were only allowed from both year groups. We are so proud of Archie, Lucy, Ross and Leon but also all the students who worked hard on this project and submitted their work for the competition.
The finalists work can be viewed below...
Archie (Year 9) - a song he wrote, performed and played
Lucy (Year 9) piece called 'Plastic and the Prophets'
Ross and Leon (Year 8) artwork called 'The Wonderful World We Live In'
