Sue Divin Visit
BackNews - 27th Jun 2023
On Friday 23rd June the Northern Irish author Sue Divin came into school to speak to 45 Year 9 students. The students were chosen because of their excellent attitude and effort in English lessons this year. Sue talked about what it was like to grow up in Armagh during the Troubles, her work as a peace-builder in Derry and the creative writing process. She read passages from her latest book, Truth be Told, which was shortlisted for the UKLA book award, an award voted for by teachers (in consultation with their students). Miss Kennett, Miss Hamilton and Mrs Richards have all been part of the judging process for this award and, although she didn’t win, her novel was definitely one of our favourites!
Congratulations also go to Emily R, Anna P, Abi S and Graci W who won our creative writing competition with beautiful pieces of prose and poetry on the theme of Conflict and The Truth. They were gifted a signed copy of each of Sue’s books.
If you are interested in exploring more about Northern Ireland or would like to read one of Sue’s books, her publishers have kindly gifted the school four copies of each book that you will find in our library.
