On January 27th, we attended the Holocaust Memorial Day service at Exeter Cathedral, marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The theme for this year’s commemoration was "Never Forget."

The service was a thought-provoking experience that deepened our understanding of the Holocaust’s relevance to us today. Speakers from diverse backgrounds shared their personal stories and insights, emphasising the importance of remembering the past to prevent such horrors from happening again.

Later, at the United Reformed Church, we gained further insight into the atrocities of the Holocaust. While we learned about the persecution of Jewish people, we also explored the experiences of other less-known victims such as the Roma community. The deeply emotional short film about the suffering at Auschwitz left a lasting impact. We also heard the personal story of Otto who shared his experience with Kindertransport, shedding light on the bravery and resilience of those who survived.
